10 Baby Yoga Poses to Help Sitting Babies Sleep Better in Singapore

Baby Growth Spurts – When Do They Happen

Hello, lovely parents! Debra here — your certified Sleep Sense™ Consultant in Singapore. If you’re navigating the beautiful chaos of sleep training a baby, you know how crucial it is to help your little one relax and wind down.

Now imagine this: It’s 6:30 PM. The baby just finished a warm bath, the nursery smells like lavender, and soft lullabies play in the background. But despite all your efforts, your baby is tossing and turning instead of settling down for the night. Sounds familiar?

This is where baby yoga can make a magical difference. For babies who are already sitting up independently (typically around 6-9 months), baby yoga is a fantastic way to support physical development, regulate emotions, and most importantly—support better sleep. Yes, it ties beautifully into sleep training a baby.

Let’s dive into this fun and soothing 10-step baby yoga routine, perfect for little ones in Singapore!

Why Baby Yoga Helps with Sleep Training a Baby

When sleep feels like a battle, baby yoga can become your pre-bedtime superpower.

Here’s how it ties beautifully into sleep training a baby:

  • Regulates the nervous system, helping babies unwind.

  • Encourages predictability and routine—core elements of successful sleep training.

  • Improves body awareness, which aids self-soothing.

Parents across Singapore often share how just 10–15 minutes of gentle yoga improved their baby’s sleep routine. And it’s a beautiful bonding experience too.

10-Step Baby Yoga Routine for Sitting Babies

Best Time: Right after a warm bath or before your bedtime story.

1. Hello Toes

Gently bring your baby’s toes to their mouth. Let them explore or kiss their toes. It enhances flexibility and digestion—great for winding down before sleep training a baby.

2. Open Arms Stretch

Sit your baby facing you. Help them stretch their arms wide as you say, “Open arms!” Then give them a gentle hug. This reinforces security and rhythm.

3. Side-to-Side Rocking

Hold your baby’s torso and gently sway them side to side while sitting. This calms the vestibular system and prepares their body for relaxation.

4. Seated Twist

Help your baby twist gently to the left and right while seated. Say, “Twist to the left, twist to the right!” This helps with core strength and settling down.

5. Butterfly Knees

Hold their feet together and gently bounce their knees like butterfly wings. This relieves tension and helps with gas and colic relief, which supports uninterrupted sleep.

6. Peek-a-Pose

Hide behind your hands and say “Peekaboo!” while your baby is seated. This familiar game adds joy to the routine and helps babies feel emotionally secure—a vital piece of sleep training a baby.

7. Drum Time

Pat your baby’s knees gently like little drums. Let them mimic your actions. Rhythm improves cognitive connections and offers a soothing transition to quieter moments.

8. Hug & Sway

Hold your baby close and sway side to side. Sing a lullaby softly. This provides emotional security—essential when sleep training a baby in a new environment like daycare or after travel.

9. Belly Breaths

Lie your baby down and gently place your hand on their belly. Take a deep breath yourself and encourage them to settle with you. This slows down the heart rate and initiates calm.

10. Namaste Nap Pose

End with your baby in your lap, cuddled with their head on your chest. Whisper “Namaste” and rub their back gently. This pose tells your baby: “We are safe, loved, and ready for rest.”

Tips for Doing Baby Yoga in Singapore

  • Choose a cool, quiet room. Singapore’s heat can make babies irritable—use a fan or light AC to keep the space breezy.

  • Use a soft, non-slip mat. A folded blanket works great too.

  • Be consistent. Incorporate this yoga sequence into your bedtime routine as you continue sleep training a baby.

Baby Yoga & Sleep Training Go Hand in Hand

Many of the parents I work with at Lullabub Sleepers are surprised at how just a few minutes of mindful movement makes bedtime smoother. When combined with sleep training a baby, this gentle yoga flow:

  • Creates predictable wind-down cues.

  • Reduces cortisol (stress hormone) in both baby and parent.

  • Builds emotional resilience in babies during sleep regressions.

And let’s not forget—the smiles, giggles, and cuddles during yoga create cherished memories in your journey of sleep training a baby.

Final Words from Debra

Whether you're a new parent or navigating sleep regressions, baby yoga is one of the easiest ways to bond, calm your baby, and enhance the effectiveness of sleep training a baby.
